The French group M83 has earned a strong reputation on the world music scene for several years. Their productions were frequently used for movie’s soundtracks such as “The Other World” and “The Last Song” in 2010, or more recently “The Art of Flight”. Jordan Lawlor, guitarist, bassist and pianist of the band has recently reached us to get the T-shirt “Lucifer” designed by La Boca for their European tour. We went to meet him during one of their French dates in La Friche in Marseille.

Introduce yourself .
I’m Jordan Lawlor, from M83. I play Guitar, Bass and Keyboard. We ‘re just out of the concert and I’m sweaty.
Which artist or vinyl motivated you to play music?
I guess the first band which motivated me to play music is probably… I was maybe three years old, one of my parents old vinyls. Well, I started playing bass when I was playing Guitar, cause it’s the same thing with less strings. So, it was easy
How long have you been the M83 bassist ?
It started like… 9 month ago. And it was a youtube audition thing, Anthony (one of M83’s founders) was looking for a musician. He needed somebody who plays three instruments and who could sing some parts on the records, so I send him a video. That was the job.
What’s iyour favorite song of “My Bloody Valentine”?
Definitely “Only Shallow”.
In which period would you have rather liked to live in?
I would have loved to be in the bridge between the late time music and the early electronic music, starting with guys like Pink Floyd. I see my performance style much more in this area.
What does a tour’s day look like ? Are you partying a lot or mainly workin ?
Yeah, we’re pretty much on tour, we play here and there until we’re back in the USA. I mean, we mostly party on tour, in the bus, and then when we have time, we don’t party,
we just get to our girlfriends, just cool down you know.
A last question. Why did you choose this t-shirt?
Well, I’m like a really huge fan of Led Zeppelin. I saw this movie “Lucifer Rising”, where Jimmy Page scores and the Jacket in this movie is this Sixpack shirt. So, when I saw it, I usually saw the drummer of the Arctik Monkeys wearing it, I was freaking out. I was like “Oh my God, this is an absolute reference”. I was blown away, so I told my girlfriend to go buy it. It’s an amazing shirt.
